Mike Soko Named DBIC for Massachusetts | ENRG Realty

ENRG Spotlight: Mike Soko, Designated Broker in Charge for Massachusetts

Mike Soko (Sokolowski) is ENRG's new Designated Broker in Charge for Massachusetts, based in Greater Boston and serving agents across the market. He's been on hundreds of inspections in one of the oldest housing markets in the country, he's spent his career getting genuinely interested in the people in front of him, and the thing he keeps coming back to when he talks about the role isn't systems or process. It's whether the agents he works with will look back on the experience fondly and feel it grew on them over the years.

Mike Soko, ENRG Realty Designated Broker in Charge for Massachusetts

"I never stop talking to people, and that doesn't change now that I'm the broker. When you need me, I pick up. With ten years in this, I'll always try to give you the why behind an answer, not just the answer. And I want to encourage what makes an agent unique and grow that, instead of forcing anyone into one mold. I've been on the other side of that, and I hated it."

A path to real estate that came sideways

Mike came to real estate the way a lot of the best ones do, sideways. He grew up in Shelton, Connecticut, went to Boston College, and spent his early career in advertising at ESPN and repping Tempurpedic across New England before a round of golf changed things. His friend's father, a successful broker in northcentral Massachusetts, told him something that stuck: now everyone you meet could be a future client. Mike got his license in 2015 and built a Boston branch of the man's team, leaving business cards on the floor of every bar he left and recruiting his Uber drivers along the way.

What drove him then still drives him now, and it's the part that matters for the agents he'll support. His biggest fear was letting people down, and that fear made him learn the business fast so he'd always be in a position to actually help. That's a useful instinct in an agent. It's the whole job in a broker.

Why he'll be a good broker for our agents

The thing agents will notice first about Mike is that he's there. He never stops talking to people, he can get genuinely interested in anyone, and he treats being reachable as the baseline rather than a favor you have to earn. When you need your broker, he's the one who picks up — not a name at the top of a hierarchy you route a question to and wait on.

That instinct isn't new. Mike's biggest fear starting out was letting people down, and it made him learn the business and the market fast so he'd always be in a position to actually help. He wants his name to bring a wry smile, and he wants the impact of the work to grow on you over the years rather than fade. Point all of that at a roster of agents instead of a book of clients and you have the whole job.

The market credibility backs it up. Greater Boston is old, layered with brownstones and triple deckers and capes that often date to the 1800s and get gut renovated while keeping their original faces. Reading them well is a skill Mike built one inspection at a time, and the hundreds he's walked are, in his telling, the most useful thing he's done, because they let him steer clients away from costly mistakes. That's knowledge his agents get to borrow — and a broker who'll actually pick up the phone to share it.

As for why he's here, he sums up his read on ENRG simply: "It's a centralized hub of tech and support catered to real estate. ENRG provides the connective tissue of a brokerage you need these days while being allowed to run your business as you see fit."

That balance — real support behind you, freedom to work your own way — is exactly what he intends to give the agents under him.

The origin story

There's a reason the loyalty runs deep. Mike sits on the board of the Brittany Fund, which supports people through unexpected traumatic events. It grew out of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, where Mike was at the finish line and became a first responder, helping get a young woman named Brittany to the hospital. That group remains exceptionally close, and Mike has run the Boston Marathon four times raising money for the fund. The detail that ties it all together: Brittany's father was the broker who first pushed Mike to get his license. That's his origin story, and it says something about the kind of person agents will be handing their trust to.

Off the clock

Mike is, by his own description, a man about town, on more than a few text threads to play sports around the city. His two loves are comedy and basketball, and he's mapped Greater Boston by tracking down pickup runs from Somerville to the North End to Southie to Cambridge to Braintree to Hyde Park. He sends people to the Comedy Studio and Laugh Boston for up-and-coming stand-ups, calls the Wilbur Theater a mesmerizing historical venue, and points visitors to the North End and the waterfront, with The Daily Catch his personal favorite. For history he'll route you west to Lexington and Concord, south to Southie where Washington held off the British, north to Salem, or over to Harvard Square, which he says has a charm unlike anything else.
